HYDR Urban Water Group

Our group has a strong expertise in quantitative approaches to model, monitor and assess urban water fluxes. In particular, we focus on methods facilitating implementation of Blue-Green Infrastructure, so-called Nature Based Solutions in an urban context.

Most of our work is done in the context of the Brussels Capital Region, an urban region in full transition and as such an ideal case study with plenty of relevant data available. With our research, we aim at the development of innovative “tools”, having both significant academic and societal impact.

Description of some current research topics:

  1. Physical-based and conceptual hydrological and hydraulic modelling of urban drainage
  2. Remote-sensing based urban landscape characterization
  3. Spatio-temporal quantification of the urban hydrological response
  4. Citizen science based approaches for urban water management
